(AP) WASHINGTON - A former House candidate who used campaign funds to buy clothing says he has paid the money back.
North Carolina Republican William Breazeale (pronounced brah-ZIL’) says he decided to run for Congress after returning from a combat tour in Iraq _ and realized he needed proper clothing.
He says he used $1,000 from his campaign for clothing in 2007, and paid the campaign back a few months later after his treasurer questioned the spending.
Breazeale is among five candidates named in a Federal Election Commission complaint filed last week by a watchdog group.
