FINLAY: Morning of the first day

First thing in the morning and we are up for the breakfast reception, hosted by Johnson and Johnson.

The early morning meeting we talk about hurricane Gustav and our prayers go out to everyone in New Orleans.  I wish there were more we could do.

We are making a lot of changes to our schedule to make sure that Louisiana is getting the help and attention it needs.

Someone asks the question: "Why can't we just walk to the excel center?"

Ron Carey: "well you can, but keep in mind that there could be as many as 50000 protestors marching right by you. Most of those are peaceful, but some have expressed other intentions."

Apparently there was a police raid on anarchists houses filled with guns and gallons and gallons of human urine and fesces - they were apparently going to fill water baloons with human wastes and throw them at people.

It's hard to fathom how people want their own freedom of speech utterly uninhibited and unfettered, but only for the purpose of trying to prevent our rights to peacefully assemble and excercise our freedom of speech.
