My convention experience started on Thursday with a brief orientation meeting for the Credentials Committee at the Convention Center. Our business session was yesterday. There wasn't much that needed to be resolved, so calling the roll may have actually taken longer than dealing with credentials issues. The issue that we had to deal with was a challenge to the state of Washington's delegation. The challenge, however, didn't seem to have much merit and we voted unanimously to accept the delegates that the Washington State Republican Party had reported.
Before starting the business session we watched Senator McCain's Vice Presidential announcement rally. The pick of Sarah Palin was very well received among the delegates (there were about 100 of us at the meeting). I of course was hoping for a Pawlenty candidacy, but Alaska's governor looks like an extremely good choice. The conservatives seem happy, she's a good speaker, she's a governor, and regardless of how conservative Alaska is she won in an extremely bad year for Republicans.
