BERGSTROM: On Denver

No question that Colorado is a gorgeous state.  Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak.  The Royal Gorge.  Great Sand Dunes National Park.  The town of Ouray.  And I've always thought Denver to be a nice city.  Before today the last (and only) time I came here was in August 1992.  I came to CO for a week with good friend Sandra Struthers.  Her sister was a student at Colorado College and my aunt lived in Colorado Springs so we decided to take a trip.  Most of our time was spent in Colorado Springs.  I spent one night up in Denver.  My aunt Pat and her friend Mary Colman took me to see Richard III with Ian McKellan.  Amazing.

Oh, and Sandra, her sister and I made it to Red Rocks for an Indigo Girls concert.  I love First Avenue.  Best indoor music venue I've been to with the possible exception of the Mercury Lounge in NYC.  That said, if I could have Red Rocks as the venue for every concert I go to, I would.

Quick word on Coors Field:  fantastic.  Great park.  Makes me excited for Twins baseball outdoors in 2010.  I hate that Hennepin County is paying full fare on the stadium but giddy for the prospect of outdoor ball in MN.  BTW, Twins are winning the World Series.  But I digress.  Coors Field is beautiful.  The views are incomparable.

So Denver is a solid city.  I always liked Denver because they were our sister city in terms of football futility.  Four Superbowl losses.  Then John Elway--who looks like a Bronco if you look closely--had to ruin that.  Thank goodness for Buffalo.
