BERGSTROM: Going To Denver

It's Sunday the 24th of August and that means I'm finally on my way to Denver for the Democratic National Convention.  I was elected as a pledged delegate to Obama seemingly forever ago on April 26th at the Fifth Congressional District Convention in Minneapolis.  Since then I have had so much going on (job change, life in general) that I have not thought about the upcoming week as much as I would have expected.

But now it's here.  I'm looking forward to witnessing history, to be sure.  Being a politics geek this week should be about as good as it gets.  And being an extrovert who loves meeting people, it should be a bunch of fun as well.

What am I most looking forward to?  First, I hope to see my friend Mikkel Hylden--we call him "Pops"--today.  He and I are going to try to meet up for the Rockies game at Coors Field, assuming my plane lands on time.  I've known Pops since before high school when he and I both caddied at the Edina Country Club.  We both earned Chick Evans Scholarships to attend the University of Minnesota.  Some time after college he moved to Denver to live & work and I rarely see him.  So hopefully there will be a Hylden sighting.

The convention should be fantastic, starting with some receptions Sunday night and our first breakfast meeting Monday morning.  The delegation meetings begin at 8 a.m. most days--a time that will surely come early following some late night receptions.
